Pomegranate – how to prepare it

This fruit is a well-known delicacy and at the same time a great health product. Especially during the cold season consumption is recommended. It contains many antioxidants.

I need the pomegranate in three different varieties.
– as fresh fruit
– as dried fruit or
– as elixir.

The fresh fruit is the most elaborate. I will show you here how you can prepare it easy.

You need:
pomegranate
large knife
large bowl filled with water
chopping board
sieve

You cut the pomegranate with the knife in two halves. Be careful: do not cut it through completely. Then dip the pomegranate in the large water bowl and halve it completely. Now break the halves into small pieces and separate the small seeds and skins. The whole process is done under water. The seeds will sink to the bottom and the skins will float on the surface of the water. When finished you remove the cuticles with a sieve or by hand and pour the seeds into the sieve.

Good to know:
Unfortunately it is a cumbersome job to prepare the fresh fruit. However, it is worth it, because its good qualities come into their own.

When preparing, make sure that you are not wearing your favorite shirt or blouse, because it is hardly possible to do without splashes and they are hard to wash out. I recommend wearing an apron.

The medical use of the pomegranate has an old tradition. Above all, it contains many antioxidant protective substances called polyphenols. These should be good for chronic inflammatory processes, arteriosclerosis and cardiovascular diseases, cancer and counteract cell aging.

Of course, it is best to eat the fruit fresh. Nevertheless, if you don’t have much time to prepare, then I can recommend the dried pomegranates. They also taste excellent. I also like to use the elixir that I add to every “Müesli” (cereals).

I always have all three suggested variants at home during winter time. You can get the elixir in the organic shop or in the pharmacy.
